Oriel House, Colchester
Oriel House was once the headquarters for both the Essex County Standard and the Evening Gazette newspapers. This project, in the centre of Colchester, consisted of the conversion of the office building into twenty four, one and two bedroom apartments. The project involved a complete strip out of the building, installing new kitchens, bathrooms, lighting and services as well as full internal decoration. Each apartment is individual in design with period features retained, a variety of terraces and balconies added and some apartments offering split level living.
The beautiful Oriel window is still the main feature of the facade and has created a quirky design feature inside. Many challenges had to be met during this project including the confines of working in a busy town centre and maintaining good relations with nearby residents and businesses. Cura Construction is a member of Considerate Constructors Scheme and scored highly in site inspections during this project.
